Emergency Response

Following Hurricane Katrina, Epic worked with SAVE THE CHILDREN to build a theatre program that united student evacuees from New Orleans with students from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Twenty six teenagers from three Baton Rouge high Schools (Capitol HS, Istrouma HS, and Belaire HS) created an original script based on their experiences evacuating New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, their difficult introduction into the Baton Rouge school system, and their future hopes for their new community and themselves. Swine Palace Productions and Louisana State University generously donated their Reilly Theatre on the LSU Campus for the final performance. “Remembering the Gift” was funded by the international relief organization, Save The Children, which has been working extensively throughout school systems in the area affected by Hurricane Katrina to provide teachers and school administrators with support on the psychology of those students who were directly affected.
